We’ve accepted and strongly encouraged on-line payments from residents for just over 3 years now. This week we achieved a new benchmark, 90% of our residents paid their rent on-line! We’re really proud of this metric for many reasons. Residents prefer paying rent on-line (remember most of them are 25-40 years old and that demographic prefers on-line payments), it’s faster than checks, it’s WAY more efficient than opening envelopes and scanning checks, it doesn’t cost the residents anything, and both the residents and the office knows the minute somebody has an NSF. We’ll continue improving this metric but the rate of improvement will slow down. We also know there are some residents (almost always the older demographic) who simply prefer to pay with a check.
