An Economic Comparison
Thursday, April 18th, 2013April 18th, 2013
A friend in the brokerage business recently sent an interesting comparison to me. The basis was comparing some economic indicators from October 2007 and in March 2013, the last two times the Dow Jones index crested over 14,000. Their synopsis of these numbers is that inflation will be an issue in the foreseeable future.
Some of the highlights:
Then | Now | |
Americans on Food Stamps: | 27.2M | 47.7M |
US Debt as a % of GDP: | 64.6% | 105% |
US Deficit: | $160B | $900B |
Americans Unemployed: | 7.2M | 12M |
10 Yr Treasury Yield: | 4.66% | 1.9% |
The trends sure seem unsustainable to me, let’s all hope there are many ways to get down from this growing precipice.
