Drug Awareness Training

Friday, December 1st, 2023

It’s hard to live or work in Seattle and not know someone who has been affected or died from drug use, addiction or overdose. At a minimum, we all see it around the city.

As Property Managers, our view of drug use and addiction is also usually through the frustrated landlord lens of delinquency, threatening behavior, vandalism and property crime, etc. It’s making our job much harder. In an effort to help make us all more aware and knowledgeable, Redside invited representatives from the University of Washington’s Addictions, Drug & Alcohol Institute (ADAI) to speak to us today. Leilani Dawn’s and Wendy Williams-Gilbert did an outstanding job of briefly enlightening us on some of the hard truths related to this very challenging subject–especially with the prevalence & dangers of fentanyl. And, as they noted, it was helpful for them to start understanding our perspective, as property managers, on the cost of addiction for us and our clients. We’re all lucky to have resources like the UW “in our back yard”.
